Apprentices work full time to gain practical skills an knowledge relate to a specific professional profession. 

While working full time, apprentices also receive formal on-line education.

Apprenticeships have a fixed duration, during which apprentices work towards achieving a set of competency standards. The length of an apprenticeship can vary depending on the industry and the complexity of the skills being acquired.

Apprentices work under the supervision of experienced professionals who serve as managers and mentors, guiding them through the learning process and providing feedback.

Apprentices are full time employees and paid for their work. Wages may be lower than those of fully qualified workers. The pay may increase as the apprentice progresses and acquires more skills. 

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices relieve a national credential from the Department of Labor. 

Chattanooga, TN, is poised for a significant enhancement in its apprenticeship landscape, having been selected as an Apprenticeship Innovation Hub by BuildWithin and the Department of Labor (DOL). This selection includes an infusion of $1.6 million into the Chattanooga area over the coming four years. These funds with assist local businesses in the creation and expansion of registered apprenticeship programs, as well as youth apprenticeship programs.

Central to this ambitious endeavor is Walton Robinson, who assumed the role of Executive Director. The Hub will foster a conducive ecosystem for skill development and professional growth within the community.

Characterized by the collaboration of civic leaders including county and city mayors, school district superintendents, and business and community executives, this effort aims to create pathways to thriving wage employment opportunities for both youth and adults in the Chattanooga area.
